Record sales throughout 2010 and 2011 have led to Brown and Holmes setting up an Apprentice Scheme in conjunction with South Staffs College in Tamworth. The company has worked closely with the college during 2011 to develop a scheme that is geared towards shopfloor requirements.

Kevin Ward, joint Director of Brown & Holmes, said: “We have gone away from the old BTEC route and gone back to a more ‘craft’-based course in line with the old EITB training courses. We want to bring back basic hand and craft skills to the shopfloor.”

The company has taken on two apprentices under the scheme, as well as a joint Inspection and Training Manager to oversee the training of apprentices within the business.

Brown & Holmes offers a complete precision workholding and machining service: encompassing design and manufacture, assembly, testing and inspection, tooling support and installation. The company is also the sole UK agent for the FORKARDT workholding range of standard and special rotary power chucks, expanding mandrels and steady rest packages.
